About extended producer responsibility (EPR)
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a type of environmental policy that is based on the “polluter pays” principle, and thus regulates the producer’s responsibility for the products it puts on the market. Its application directly contributes to the development of a circular economy.
The main goal of the EPR is to properly manage waste, thereby reducing its negative impact on the environment, while reducing production losses and the need for non-renewable resources.
Under the policy, manufacturers are responsible for the entire life cycle of products, from the moment they are manufactured to the end of their useful life. Regulations govern the management of generated waste through payment of fees for collection, recycling, reuse and disposal.
